Why I Am Not An Economist

Many lawyers can name another lawyer whose life inspired him or her to go to law school.  Mine is John Doar who died yesterday.  I remember reading story after story about Doar’s dedication and courage as head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in the South in the 1960’s.   I still get a thrill reading about Doar’s life in the NYT obit linked below. If it hadn’t been for John Doar, today I would probably be an economist with poor math skills.
